No two sets of African ebony used for these 600 Series limiteds are alike, as caramel-hued sapwood and dark-chocolate heartwood converge into a dramatic display of abstract art. The wood pairing of ebony and European spruce yields a mix of warmth and rich overtones, and matches well with the Grand Auditorium body for fingerstyle or light strumming. The saturated tone will be especially rewarding to fingerstylists and other players who enjoy chords and notes that ring out. Appointments include a koa/ivoroid Spiked Ovals fretboard inlay, ivoroid binding with curly koa top edge trim, and an ivoroid/curly koa rosette. Gold Gotoh 510 tuners add a splash of vintage character. The 614ce-LTD features full-body gloss finish, a Venetian cutaway, and Expression System® electronics.

Our Builder’s Edition design concept is guided by our desire to elevate the guitar-playing experience to a new level of refinement in both sound and feel. Inspired by the sonic advances of our V-Class bracing, Taylor design architect Andy Powers has applied his envelope-pushing touches to similarly enhance the playing comfort. With the maple/torrefied spruce Builder’s Edition 614ce, we’ve paired V-Class bracing with player-friendly contouring to create a wonderfully ergonomic feel. Smooth details include a beveled armrest with beveled body edge treatment; a contoured cutaway with a finger bevel for extra fretting ease up the neck; gold Gotoh 510 tuners that sport a luxurious feel and 21:1 gear ratio; and our Silent Satin™ finish, which reduces incidental noise while playing. Tonally, the combination of V-Class bracing, our Grand Auditorium body style, and the maple/torrefied spruce wood pairing together translate into an incredibly responsive guitar. V-Class’s sonic improvements — more volume and sustain, more harmonic agreement between notes, and remarkable consistency in the fullness of notes everywhere on the fretboard — give maple’s sonic transparency a remarkably player-reflective character, allowing the guitar to sound warm, bright or whatever the player decides to bring to it. The touch sensitivity is enhanced by our proprietary roasting process for the torrefied Sitka spruce top, which lowers the damping effect and delivers a more played-in tone. Striking aesthetic details include a new Wild Honey Burst on the top, back, sides and neck, our mother-of-pearl Sceptor fretboard/peghead inlay, and inset maple/black body purfling with matching rosette. The guitar comes equipped with our ES2 electronics and ships in a deluxe hardshell case.

Our maple/spruce Grand Auditorium has always been a versatile performer, and this edition boasts an array of tone-enhancing refinements that transform maple’s tone profile into a richer, warmer and more complex voice. As a result, players can expect an even more dynamic and expressive musical tool. Design nuances include a maple-specific back bracing profile and a special seasoning process for the spruce top called torrefaction, a method of roasting the wood to produce an aged tonal character with greater acoustic resonance and responsiveness. Other touches include the use of protein glues to optimize the tonal transfer between key wood components and an ultra-thin, 3.5-mil gloss finish to minimize dampening. A new, hand-rubbed “Brown Sugar” stain on the back and sides gives maple’s striking figure a beautiful violin-hued appearance without adding extra thickness to the finish. Featured appointments include ivoroid Wings fretboard inlays, an inlaid ebony backstrap, ebony binding with ivoroid purfling, an ebony/ivoroid rosette, and a striped ebony pickguard, along with Taylor’s Expression System® 2 acoustic electronics. The guitar comes with a deluxe hardshell case.

One of the distinctive traits of maple as a tonewood is its sonic transparency, which makes it wonderfully player-reflective. On this maple/spruce 614ce, a torrefied (specially roasted) Sitka spruce top and our tone-enhancing V-Class bracing take that natural versatility to a whole new level. Whatever the player brings to the guitar comes through—it can be played to sound warm or bright. The roasting process for the top elicits a more played-in tone, and together with the V-Class bracing gives the player a more expressive tool in the form of increased dynamic range, greater projection, longer sustaining notes, and more harmonic agreement with chords up the entire fretboard. The 614ce also stands out as one of the most touch-sensitive models in the entire Taylor acoustic line.
