Common Practical Tips for Pianists

Before touching the piano keys, warm up your fingers and wrists with slow and soft circular motions and moderate stretching. Rotate your shoulders and arms.

To begin with, practise hands separately, slowly, and in small pieces of one-two bars.
Practise the harder passages first and do it frequently.

Count out loud to ensure precise rhythm. By counting I mean a tA-ta, tA-ta, not an old inefficient one-and, two-and.
Accent strong beats and play the first bar of any phrase louder than the last bar.

Make sure to arch your fingers. This is crucial for the health of your wrists and palms.
Slacking your fingers will overwork them and cause strain.
Keep relaxed, flexible wrists, hands and arms when playing Astronomia. A flexible wrist allows producing a warm sound.

How to Memorize Sheet Music

Start memorizing Astronomia (Coffin Dance) from the very beginning. Use the sheet music as a hint and avoid looking at a paper sheet (or a monitor) as long as you can when rehearsing the music piece.

In the left hand there are only three chords (Gm E♭ F) that are repeated for the whole song: in verses as straight eights (♪). It takes nothing to remember only three chords instead of 36 bars of accompaniment.

✍ And the last, be artistic, be creative. Print the pdf, take correction fluid and a black pen and add or delete whatever you want in this arrangement.

How to Play Astronomia Coffin Dance Sheet Music

Piano Playing Method

Accuracy in articulation is essential for playing Astronomia (Coffin Dance) piano sheet music.
Your tone should be energetic and rhythmic. To sound quietly, keep your fingers close to the keys and do some firm practice from the knuckles.
Accent every note, varying the accents each time you play. Once played lightly and up to speed, the ornament should flow naturally.
It’s worth trying out this technique for the entire song.

Among the hardest facets of piano playing is controlling a lightness of attack, and when coupled with playing at a faster speed, a reliable warm-hearted leggiero touch must rank as among the most prized piano skills.

The patterns in verses can become repetitive if not coloured imaginatively and played with rhythmic stamina. This will create some drama in your performance.

Astronomia (Coffin Dance) is speedy. Always keep the hands relaxed, especially with repeated notes, piano keyboard is not lightweight and causes a muscle pain.

Don’t forget to bring dynamic colour to your performance by quickly moving from piano to forte; play every new part with a different volume level.

There is no need to learn hands separately: the score is very easy.

Listen to the actual track Astronomia as you begin to learn the arrangement.

The RH here plays a main melody (topline) and the LH provides some harmony and rhythm (accompaniment).
Practise slowly with an obvious emphasis on the topline while playing the accompaniment as gently and calm as possible.

Keep your wrist and hand loose and relaxed as you do this.

Notice how short phrasing is. Put the emphasis on the first note of each phrase.

The LH is generally soft throughout.
In the left-hand’s accompaniment we can avoid the build-up of tension in these left-hand octave-long wearing movements: instead of using solely your fingers (1st and 5th), rotate the wrist and forearm while keeping the fingers fixed.
In an accompaniment pattern you could add an accent on beats 1 and 3.
Keep the upper notes lighter (those usually played by the “heavy” thumb), and focus on adding color to the lower notes in the left-hand pattern.
The song has rapid scalic passage work combined with a dance-like rhythm.
While it might seem counterintuitive to use the left thumb to reach down for single bass notes, it ensures a smooth, decisive downward progression. Playing trills in the LH is often best achieved using the thumb.
Nearly all modern pop music contains a firm beat. Become aware of the underlying ‘pulse’ and accent where the ‘stronger’ beat falls but remember that more is less. Avoid over-using your left hand. Aim at simple and clear playing.
Focus on soloing with the right hand without relying on the accompaniment in the left hand. Make every single note that you play to mean something.

In playing any piano transcription of a song, the aim is to give the impression of a singer (the RH) that is being accompanied by a sensitive pianist (the LH). Imagine a duet between a band and a singer, so color the two hands differently. Coordinating the parts may take some time to organise convincingly.

Нервы — Кофе мой друг

Сначала был просто Женя Мильковский. Тот, чей трек «Станция Туман» пару лет назад не загнали в свои мобилочки только самые бесчувственные люди 🙂 А потом он нашел своих музыкантов и понял, что его музыка должна быть другой. Он понял, что ему нужны «Нервы». Историю группы парни перескажут сами:

ВЛАД
Я учился в физмате, и в 10 классе решил собрать группу. Тоше тогда было всего 11, он на три года младше учился, но мы решили позвать его играть на барабанах. На одном из концертов где-то через год познакомились с Маусом, позвали его играть. Играли днями и ночами, было весело! А потом я поступил в КНЕУ, проучился 2 курса и ушел… Поставил все на музыку.

МАУС
Нет, не на концерте!! Однажды у вокалиста группы, в которой я тогда играл, был ДР и он пригласил всех своих друзей-музыкантов. Там я встретил Тошика и Владика. Знакомство было отличное. Общий язык нашли сразу. Они начали репетировать на той же базе, что и мы, и там мы сдружились окончательно. А потом как-то раз мне позвонил Тошик и предложил поиграть с неким Женей Мильковским…

ТОША
Это был конец зимы, я тогда как раз уходил из муз училища, а Владик полгода как ушел из унивеа и работал в книжном магазине. А я там тусил с ним – книжки читал и музыку слушал. И тут Владику позвонили и предложили попробовать порепетировать с Женей. Мы ехали на репу в метро, и тут Жека сам подошел к нам на станции и спрашивает «Привет, а вы случайно не мои музыканты?».
ЖЕНЯ
Я стоял на одном конце платформы, а на другом увидел двух смешных парней – один такой «Курт Кобейн», а другой «школьник из приличной британской семьи». Тоше тогда было 15! Ну я сразу понял, что это они. По дороге на репбазу пристально рассматривал их и думал – это что мне с ними, всю жизнь теперь играть? А на репе я в первую же минуту офигел от их таланта! Потом парни позвали играть Мауса: они всегда мечтали играть в одной группе. Я сначала решил, что он очень странный чувак, но оказалось что он из космоса, и к нему просто нужен подход 🙂

МАУС
На первый взгляд Женя был непонятным, и вот только недавно я начал понимать его внутренний мир. Тошик – это зюзик, которого я не смогу перестать любить. А Влад – мой товарищ, и, как бы это сказать, зеркальный друг…

ЖЕНЯ
Они такие крутые! Лучше не найти и не надо искать. Это судьба!
Результатом всего этого стала не только дружба, но и отличная музыка. Слушайте, смотрите, и, главное, берегите нервы! 🙂
