Судьба не раз сыграла с ним злую шутку и посылала ему много внезапных неприятных сюрпризов… Но все же он сумел выкарабкаться из всего этого дерьма, да причем так, что теперь его вряд ли чем-нибудь напугаешь.

Его настоящее имя — Маршалл Брюс Мэтерс III, появился он на свет в маленьком городке Сент-Джозеф, штате Миссури, 17 октября 1972 года в не слишком благополучной семье. Его отец и мать были участниками шоу-группы, дающей представления по кабакам вдоль границ штата. Однако после рождения Маршала они недолго прожили вместе — спустя пять или шесть месяцев, отец собрал пожитки и ушел из семьи. Хотя Маршалл и был еще маленьким, и не понимал, что отец с ними больше не живет, но тем не менее — детство без отца — плохое детство.

Его мать Дэбби не могла усидеть на одном месте, и детство Маршала прошло в трейлере в бесконечных путешествиях от Миссури до Мичигана. Разумеется, при таком образе жизни он не имел никакой возможности обзавестись друзьями и нормально ходить в школу. Единственным другом его был дядя Ронни, который и познакомил его с хип-хопом: Эминем вспоминает, что первой услышанной им рэп-пластинкой была «Rhyme Pays» Айс-Ти, которую дядя подарил ему в 1987 году. Тогда подросток и решил, что неплохо бы стать рэппером.

Imagine Dragons — Monster

Imagine Dragons образовались в Лас Вегасе в 2008 году. Название группы представляет собой анаграмму, значение которой знают лишь Дэн, Бен, Уэйн и Даниэль. Дэн Рейнольдс, фронтмен, создал её, когда учился в Университете Бригама Янга. Затем он привлёк своего друга Уэйна Сормена, который отлично играл на гитаре. Группа быстро набирала популярность. А уже в Лас Вегасе к Дэну и Уэйну присоединились басист Бен МакКи и барабанщик Даниэль Платцмен, друзья Сормена.

Вначале 2009 ребята приступают к работе в студии. И уже 1 февраля выпускают свой первый EP под названием «Imagine Dragons». А 1 апреля следующего года свет увидел их EP «Hell and Silence» (в записи участвовал номинант «Грэмми» Марк Нидхэм). Оба EP были записаны в звукозаписывающей студии Battle Born Studios. Вскоре им было предложено выступить на ежегодном фестивале Bite of Las Vegas, как «Самая востребованная группа 2010» на местном 107.9FM. Они были выбраны хедлайнерами на Vegas Music Summit, а Лас Вегас CityLife назвал их «Группой, которую необходимо увидеть вживую», они стали «Лучшей инди группой 2010 года» по мнению Las Vegas Weekly, и были удостоены премии «Лучшая пластинка 2011 года» от журнала Vegas Seven. В ноябре 2011 года Imagine Dragons подписали контракт с американским звукозаписывающим лейблом Interscope Records.
