DATING JACKSON GUITARS BY REFERENCE OF SERIAL NUMBERS
Jackson Guitar Company was founded in 1980 by Grover Jackson, Mike Shannon and Tim Wilson, with current production locations in 5 countries.
The serial numbers have different formats and are also diverse per production location.
Where to find the serial number
Depending on the model you find the serial number stamped into the neck plate or stamped on the fingerboard at the last fret or on the headstock.
If you want to know the production year of your Squier guitar, you can decipher it with the serial number decoder, or find it in explanation about the dating system below.
Jackson history in short
Until the early 1980s, Grover Jackson worked for the guitar builder and manufacturer Wayne Charvel. Charvel made copies of the Fender Stratocaster and was the first manufacturer with a 24 frets guitar, the «Superstrat». In 1980, Grover started his own company and focused primarily on building individual customer requirements. One of the first customers was the guitar player of Ozzy Osbourne, Randy Rhoads. This became the «RR» model which was based on the Flying V. or Gibson. Due to the high quality of the Jackson guitars, more and more guitar players, especially from the heavy-metal scene, had a custom-made guitar built at Grover Jackson. This resulted in legendary models such as the King V, Soloist, Concert and Dinky. The guitars were produced in San Dimas, California and later also in Ontario, California. In 1985, IMC acquired the greatest interest in Jackson and began to devote more time and attention to a more extensive guitar market. | While Jackson still makes top products, Jackson also began to produce cheaper versions of their standard designs in Asia in an effort to make their products more accessible to people with a small wallet. In late 2002 bought Fender Musical Instruments Corporation Jackson IMC, and American productions were moved to the Fender factory in Corona, California. Grover Jackson |

JACKSON PERFORMER PS-3
Hey, I really wonder when my guitar made.
Serial number is 1031643.
2002 USA soloist
I have a 2002 USA Soloist SL1 with Hot Rod Flames. (through body) Can’t quite figure out anything concerning the serial # U10779. None of the guides I have been able to check start with U1. The closest I can get is U0. I know 2002 was around when jackson was being sold and thing got a little weird concerning serial numbers. Or so a Jackson rep told me a few years back.
can anyone help me identify my solid body charvel
with serial number C600915

Jackson DK2 TR serial number 9696373 Japanese bolt on valuation
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone knew roughly the value of a Jackson DK2 TR (Transparent Red finish) serial number 9696373 Japanese bolt on neck, please? It has Seymour Duncan pickups in 2 single coils and a pair from the direction of the neck to the Floyd Rose style locking trem.
Many thanks.
Chris
What about a Randy Roads
What about a Randy Roads model with this serial number 101091
similar serial number
ive got a «professional» model neck-thru serial number J101374 which is the closest ive seen to yours. its a standard jackson strat style body, one humbucker two single coils. its a deep green, almost black.
im trying to figure it out, from what i gather it could be a japanese made guitar from 1991 which could make sense, i read they only made professional neck thrus there from 90-92 i believe.
Your guitar serial number have the J in front of the 101091?
tough figuring this out, thought i had an american made all this time lol
maybe it is but i dont think so now
NHJ1002760
Can anyone help identify this Jackson? NHJ10002760
Jackson Performer
I just bought a Jackson Performer (PS4 — I think) Numbered on Back Plate 9615710. Can anyone tell me where it was Made (Japan I think) Year it was made and Approximate Value. I really like this Guitar so I plan to keep it, but my Son also likes it, Thank You, Samo
Can anyone tell me when and where my guitar was made?
So, its a Jackson V serial number 002030 on the fingerboard. The only match to this number I can find says its a bolt on. but is clearly not. Its one solid piece. Anyway, its silver, 24 frets with a floating bridge and Seymour Duncan pickups. I bought it used about 15 years ago.
Usually 6 digit serial
Usually 6 digit serial numbers are Japanese models made before 1997. The first number denotes the year 0=1990.
Jackson concept serial number
This doesn’t even look close to a typical Jackson serial number. I’m selling 9405559.. I don’t know what it’s worth. Someone made a rent payment with it.
purple jx7 Jackson Serial # j000016
Looking for information about this guitar which I purchased in 1990’s. It’s a bolt neck. White sparkle pick plate. Serial number on back of neck.
What Year is this made?
I’ve been searching all over online and can’t find anything for my guitar to tell me what year it was made. The plate on the back says 210507 and it’s a Jackson Professional Dinky Reverse.
1992 Chushin Gakki factory
1992 Chushin Gakki factory
Dinky what.
This is all I can find on my guitar in which I am trying to find out what it is. Dinky what.
Serial number: NHJ1048300
Production year: 2010
Production number: 48300
Factory: Harmony (India)
Jackson V «Crafted in India»
I just bought a Jackson V that has «Crafted in India» stamped into the back of the tuning head. It has a Jackson Floyd Rose Tremolo and the Pickups look like EMGs, but they say Jackson on them, and there is no where to put a battery so I’m sure they aren’t Active or EMGs. The tuning machines have (would you believe) stickers that say Jackson. It is not a bad looking guitar. It looks identical to a JS Series King V, except the cord jack is on the lower part of the «V» instead of the upper. I plugged it in in the pawn shop and there was no buzzing or bad feedback. Whoever owned it didn’t know how to adjust the floating tremolo to make it level and then set the string height and intonation. I plan on doing all of that before I pass judgement. The serial number is stamped into the metal neck plate and is NJHK08007329. I can’t find any information about this guitar anywhere. Anyone know anything about it?
I have been having the same
I have been having the same issue. Did you ever find a way to decipher the serial number? Or a way to I’d specific model numbers?

Manufacturers sometimes want to change their serial number format, especially in Asian countries to which many Western companies have outsourced their production. The decoders are updated when the format of a new serial number format from a recognized manufacturer is known. |
Fake or real
If a serial number is not in the lists or is not recognized in the serial number decoder, it does not mean that the guitar is a fake.
Conversely, it is of course no guarantee whether the guitar is authentic, as a serial number is easy to copy.
Example of a Gibson serial number:
A real serial number is stamped dark on the back of the
headstock. A fake serial number is usually in white.
Brands such as Gibson, Fender, PRS or other renowned brands also issue a certificate of authenticity, but this can also be used for fraud.
An authorized dealer will certainly not sell you a fake, but if you want to buy a guitar privately or via the internet, be careful.
What you should pay attention to is first of all the price.
Authentic guitars and vintage versions keep their value or increase in price.
This of course depends on the condition of the guitar.
What you should also pay attention to is the appearance of the guitar.
Headstock
Note the shape of the headstock, the font used, and the position where the serial number is affixed. You can compare this with original images of the model.
Fret inlays
The manufacturers have advanced equipment to accurately place the inlays between the frets. On a fake you often see a deviation with respect to the original model.
There are more external features that you should pay attention to, such as the logo and printed or stamped serial number, but that differs per brand.
With acoustic guitars, the most common trick is that forgers use cheap plywood instead of solid wood.
To do this, look at the inner edge of the sound hole to see if the wood grain also continues.
If you are in any doubt about the guitar’s authenticity, please first contact the manufacturer’s service department and provide the features (or a photo) that you are unsure about.
The manufacturer will certainly respond to this because they want to combat counterfeits and will take action against them.
MIRC USED guitars
It is often said that guitars where have «USED» printed on them and got a gold-colored sticker are fake.
