MTuner is a powerful frequency analyzer designed mostly for tuning guitars and other instruments. It features a classic monophonic tuner as well as a high resolution polyphonic tuner which tremendously speeds up tuning guitars and basses.

Key Tuner

Key Tuner is a free tuner VST plugin Reajs and Reaper developed by octarone. Compatible OS(s): anyos.

Key Tuner is a little MIDI-only JSFX that allows you to play any scale you want with standard MIDI, with any tuning you choose, and it works on any synth as long as it supports pitchbending (or the VST2 per-note detune, but very few do, and even so you will need special conversions). Microtonal scales? Scales with more than 12 notes per octave? No problem. You can define any kind of relationship between the notes that you want, AND tune a specific base note to whatever frequency you want.

The way it works is pretty simple even though slightly more complex under the hood. It maps each input note based on a scale formula to a specific output note with Pitchbend. So basically, input note → output note + pitchbend (on a specific channel). Furthermore, for each scale, you can change the root dynamically to a note on the scale relative to the base (or key), so it still falls on the scale relative to the base, but the relationship between the notes is now around the new root. This allows you to use ONE scale even for different chord roots (but on the same scale) by just supplying a MIDI note on Channel 16 corresponding to the new root. So, you can have one Just Intonation scale for example, but be able to play chords with any root and proper relationships. What’s more, it can actually store up to 128 Scales which you can change with a Program Change as desired, the scales can be completely different this time (and arbitrary tunings for each), no need to have several instances of this script for the same instrument.

• Play any scale with normal MIDI notes, and tune it to any base frequency you want.
• Scales can have arbitrary relationships between their notes, and any number of notes (per octave).
• Works with any synth as long as it accepts Pitchbend events by sending it (and the respective notes) on different channels for polyphony.
• Pitchbend range (of the receiving synth) is adjustable per instance, and goes down to half a semitone.
• Tries to make best use of all the available channels (max specified by user); the iteration favors notes that were released for a longer time.
• The root can be changed relative to the base (key) of the scale as you play! Notes/Chords will then play relative to the new root, so they will have proper relationships for chords.
• You can individually fine-tune (detune) notes, even in chords, using special Note After-Touch events on Channel 16. This is on a note-by-note basis.
• Pitchbend input is accepted as well and simply added on top of the detune pitchbend. (please make sure it doesn’t get clipped, though).
• It can store up to 128 Scales for each instance, which can be changed with Program Change messages.
• Scales and their tunings use a custom text format in an external tool (and imported into this), but it is pretty close to the popular Scala .scl format, notes can be copy/pasted.
• Master and Slave versions are available and bundled, to share scales per process and control them from one place (the Master).

PLEASE NOTE: Key Tuner cannot edit the scales itself, it has to load them. I’ve bundled a simple AutoHotkey script that reads the custom Scale format specific to this script and then dumps the preset or bank which can be loaded into ReaJS (which hosts this JSFX). Unfortunately, the import won’t work if hosted natively into Reaper without ReaJS (i.e using the built-in JSFX hoster); this is because native JSFX cannot load fxp or fxb files, and as far as I know, they do not allow loading of a preset, only importing one to the preset library (which is not what is needed). So, you’ll have to use ReaJS as a VST plugin even if you use Reaper.

You may find it a bit lame to have this restriction (and with AutoHotkey) but it is all pretty readable and open source so feel free to change it if you have different requirements and needs. That said, I personally use it mainly on Linux with Wine and it works just fine so I’ve no problems with it (could work also on Mac OS X if you aren’t bothered by it being non-native).

GTune

GTune is a free tuner VST plugin developed by GVST. Compatible OS(s): Windows 64b, macOS, Linux.

GTune is a chromatic instrument tuner which operates much like its hardware counterparts. It will automatically detect the pitch of a note being played, and display the Western scale note that it is closest to.

The main part of the display mimics a typical electronic tuner. When a pitch is detected, the nearest note is displayed along with an LED-style indication of flatness/sharpness.

There is also a text display providing more accuracy, should it be needed. It gives the detected frequency in Hertz and its position in the Western scale. The latter is shown as a note-name and an offset in cents. For example, “E -13” indicates that the detected pitch is 13 cents below E.

CTuner

CTuner is a free tuner VST plugin developed by C-Plugs. Compatible OS(s): Windows.

Мы живем в удивительное время, когда вопрос «куда подключить электрогитару?» упирается не в дефицит доступных вариантов, а в муки выбора среди их огромного разнообразия. Отдельное спасибо за это стоит сказать разработчикам гитарных процессоров, в том числе и софтовых, которые за последние несколько лет сильно шагнули вперед и дают возможность получить достойный звук без больших вложений. Об этих софтовых решениях я бы и хотел рассказать, а точнее поделиться подборкой актуальных на текущий момент гитарных плагинов, на которые стоит обратить внимание по моему субъективному мнению. Хочу сразу отметить, что это не обзор и не руководство, а просто список интересных вариантов для тех, кто только погружается в эту тему или же не успевает следить за новинками. Итак, предположим у вас уже имеется звуковая карта с высокоомным инструментальным входом (и понимание, для чего это нужно, как и понимание базовых принципов формирования гитарного звука), а также дикое желание записывать свои шедевры или же просто играть в свое удовольствие не мешая соседям. Помогут нам в этом:

Native Instruments GUITAR RIG 6 PRO

Думаю, это название знакомо каждому, кто хоть раз задумывался о подключении электрогитары к компьютеру. Это полнофункциональный гитарный процессор с приятным и интуитивно понятным интерфейсом, довольно неплохим звучанием и кучей пресетов с отсылками к популярным композициям. В новой версии он получил 21 гитарный и басовый усилитель и 68 различных эффектов, а также новую технологию машинного обучения для формирования гитарного звука.

Звучание: 8/10 (все оценки субъективные и не подразумевают сравнение с аналоговым звуком)

Стоимость: $199 или $99 при обновлении с предыдущей версии

Демо-версия: Есть. Работает 30 минут, затем требует перезапуска

IK Multimedia AmpliTube 5

Такой же ветеран, как и предыдущий вариант. Имеет на борту более 400 моделей оборудования, включая классические гитарные и басовые усилители, педали, рэковые эффекты и кабинеты. Звучит недурно, причем может это делать лучше, чем в представленных на оф. сайте демках, но довольно тяжеловесный и требовательный к железу.

Стоимость: от €99 до €299 в зависимости от версии

Демо-версия: Есть. Урезанная по количеству усилителей/эффектов

Positive Grid BIAS FX 2

Довольно интересный гитарный процессор, который помимо большого количества усилителей/эффектов может похвастаться технологией Guitar Match, подстраивающей звучание любого инструмента под одну из 20 культовых гитар, имеющихся в библиотеке. То есть в теории твой китайский страт может звучать, как Suhr Classic S и даже более того — как Gibson Les Paul ’57 Goldtop, но на практике прямо-таки кардинального влияния этой функции на звук я не заметил. Несмотря на то, что звук отдает некоторой искусственностью, эта самая искусственность не является неприятной слуху, как это бывает в дешевых процессорах.

Line 6 Helix Native

Софтовая версия процессоров серии Helix от Line 6. Звучит так же, как и «железные» версии, с которыми легко синхронизируется и обменивается пресетами. К слову, заводские пресеты — такое себе, но при умелой настройке можно получить очень достойный результат. Лично на мой взгляд, он проигрывает конкурентам в эмуляции усилителей/перегрузов, но хорош во всяких дилеях/модуляциях, а также очень удобен в настройке и, несмотря на широкие возможности, не сильно требователен к производительности компа.

Стоимость: $99 при зарегистрированном напольном или рэковом процессоре семейства, $399 при покупке отдельно

Демо-версия: Есть. Триал на 15 дней с полным функционалом

Очередной гитарный процессор, звучащий в целом не хуже остальных и имеющий собственные фишки, в числе которых возможность выбора ламп в усилителе и так называемый Rig Player, то есть пресеты, представляющие собой «слепки» реальных сетапов, по аналогии с тем, как это сделано в небезызвестном Kemper Profiler Amp.

Стоимость: $299 или $89 при обновлении с предыдущей версии

Демо-версия: Есть. Триал на 15 дней с полным функционалом

Плагины данной компании — это один из лучших вариантов на текущий момент, если вы уже примерно знаете, какой звук вам нужен и не стремитесь за универсальностью и количеством эффектов/усилителей. Плагины отлично звучат «из коробки» без лишних танцев с бубном, не теряются в миксе и отзываются на нюансы звукоизвлечения не сильно хуже аналогового звукового тракта. Семейство плагинов включает в себя:

— Archetype: Cory Wong

— Omega Ampworks Granophyre

— Fortin Nameless Suite

— Fortin Cali Suite

— Darkglass Ultra (для баса)

Имена исполнителей в названиях могут рассказать, какого звука стоит ожидать от того или иного плагина. Серия Archetype содержит по 3 усилителя в каждом (для чистого звука, кранча и хай-гейна), а также довольно удобные настройки кабинета и положения микрофонов, эквалайзер и 2 секции с педалями. Лично мне больше всего приглянулись Plini и Gojira

Стоимость: от $119 до $159 в зависимости от версии

Демо-версия: Есть. Триал на 14 дней с полным функционалом

Mercuriall Audio Software

И снова целое семейство плагинов, а именно:

— Euphoria (эмулирует Bogner Ecstasy 101B)

— SS-11X (собственно AMT SS-11)

— ReAxis (MESA/Boogie Triaxis)

— Spark (4 культовых британских усилителя)

Как и в случае с предыдущим пунктом, каждый из этих вариантов по отдельности не дает такого диапазона настроек, как конкуренты, так как основан на звуке конкретного усилителя/преампа, но хуже от этого не становится. Каждый может найти тут что-то на свой вкус

Стоимость: от $39 до $120 в зависимости от версии

Демо-версия: Есть. Нельзя сохранять пресеты. Звук обрезается в случайные промежутки времени. Каждые 20 минут восстанавливаются настройки по умолчанию

Данная компания тоже предлагает сразу несколько продуктов, среди которых есть именные плагины известных гитаристов, а именно:

— Tonality — Will Putney

— Tonality — Andy James

— Tonality — Howard Benson

А также эмуляторы AmpHub и ToneHub. Последний содержит огромное множество пресетов от именитых артистов, которые правда нужно докупать отдельно. С самим плагином идет 60 бесплатных пресетов, ожидаемо звучащих не так хорошо, как платные. Продукты компании собрали противоречивые отзывы — одни считают их лучшими в своем роде, другие — что они не стоят внимания. Правда же кроется в ваших собственных ушах и в ваших предпочтениях, заглянуть сюда в поисках своего звука определенно стоит.

Стоимость: от $119 до $199 в зависимости от плагина, на AmpHub есть подписка за $10 в месяц. Дополнительные пресеты для ToneHub продаются по $50

Собственно, на этом можно остановиться, хоть это и далеко не все имеющиеся на сегодняшний день варианты, но даже этих хватит, чтобы превратить занятия музыкой в бесконечное изучение пресетов и поиск подходящего звучания) Именно по этой причине я не рекомендовал бы с головой окунаться в тему гитарных процессоров (не важно, софтовых или «железных») тем, кто только начинает свой гитарный путь, ведь велик соблазн лишний раз покрутить ручки вместо того, чтобы поработать над звукоизвлечением) В остальных случаях всё вышеуказанное может стать отличным инструментом и значительно облегчить жизнь в плане звукозаписи, ведь мало у кого есть возможность раскачать дома комбик на подходящую для этих целей громкость, да и сам по себе хороший комбик и микрофон есть под рукой не у каждого. Однако не все хотят полностью отказываться от аналогового звука и на этот случай есть такая отличная вещь, как эмуляторы кабинетов на основе импульсной свертки сигнала. Если кто не в курсе, импульс — это короткий звуковой файл, представляющий собой частотный отклик реального кабинета, снятый реальным микрофоном, то есть по сути «слепок» звукового тракта. Использование импульсов с реальными усилителями/преампами позволяет получить результат, максимально близкий к снятому микрофоном, но с меньшими трудозатратами. Загрузчики импульсов есть как в составе всех вышеуказанных процессоров, там и в виде отдельных плагинов и некоторые из них тоже стоит отметить:

Французская компания, известная своими лоадбоксами и преампами, имеет в своем арсенале так же и замечательный программный загрузчик импульсов. В библиотеке имеется более 300 моделей кабинетов, но их нужно покупать отдельно, однако есть возможность использовать сторонние импульсы. Сам плагин предоставляется бесплатно на 30 дней в комплекте с 2 кабинетами и, чтобы продолжить использование после истечения этого срока, нужно купить любой кабинет из библиотеки за 8.33 евро. Плагин имеет красивый, но не слишком интуитивный интерфейс и дает возможность микшировать до 20 кабинетов одновременно.

STL Ignite — Libra

Еще один интересный загрузчик импульсов, который имеет простой и понятный интерфейс, малые системные требования и микшер на 8 кабинетов, как бы больше ничего и не нужно. Стоит, правда, это удовольствие 50 долларов, но есть 10-дневный триал, чтобы понять, надо ли оно вам.

Ignite Amps NadIR

Еще более минималистичный вариант и, что самое главное, совершенно бесплатный. Со своей задачей справляется, систему не грузит.
