One Direction — британско-ирландская группа, состоящая из пяти парней: Лиама Пейна, Найла Хорана, Луи Томлинсона, Гарри Стайлса и Зейна Малика. В группу их объединили на bootcamp этапе песенного конкурса X Factor 2010 по инициативе гостьи-судьи Николь Шерзингер. В итоге они заняли третье место на проекте, после Ребекки Фёргюссон и победителя Мэтта Кардли. Наиболее популярной, на данное время, группа является во Франции, Великобритании, Швеции и США. Первый альбом группы вышел в релиз 21 ноября 2011 года. Тут же он приобрёл колоссальный успех и в первый же день занял третье место на iTunes. Первым синглом группы была песня «What Makes You Beautiful», который вышел в продажу 11 сентября. Клип на этот сингл вышел значительно ранее, 14 августа. За полтора месяца он набрал более 9 млн просмотров на youtube. Продажи диска с синглом за первую неделю составили свыше 153 тысяч копий.За месяц продаж количество проданных копий в общем составило более 88 тысяч. Второй сингл называется «Gotta Be You». Клип на этот сингл вышел 8 ноября и менее чем за месяц, клип набрал более 8 млн просмотров. Третьим синглом альбома стала песня «One Thing», которая вышла вместе с альбомом. Релиз клипа назначен на 11 января 2012 года. Так же мальчики уже успели выпустить уже две собственных книги под названием «Forever Young» и «Dare To Dream». Книга «Forever Young» рассказывает о жизни мальчиков на проекте X Factor, а «Dare To Dream» о жизни после этого проекта. К сожалению, в России и Украине этих книг пока нет.

2010: The X Factor
В 2010 году Найл Хоран, Зейн Малик, Лиам Пейн, Гарри Стайлс и Луи Томлинсон пришли в седьмой сезон X-factor по отдельности, претендуя на попадание в сольную категорию. После предложения приглашённого судьи Николь Шерзингер они были объединены в группу, таким образом попав в категорию «Группы». One Direction финишировали третьими, пропустив вперёд лишь Ребекку Фергюсон, занявшую второе место, и победителя сезона Мэтта Кардла.

2011-present: Up All Night
После «X-Фактора» они подписали контракт со звукозаписывающей компанией Syco Music. One Direction и девять других конкурсантов из шоу приняли участие в X-Factor Live Tour в феврале-апреле 2011 года. Тур состоял из нескольких остановок в Великобритании и Ирландии. — Лиам Джеймс Пейн (Liam James Payne) родился 29 августа 1993 года в Вулвергемптоне. При рождении у него была лишь одна почка. Потом него их было две, но одна практически не работает. Сейчас обе почке в норме. Однажды уже проходил прослушивание на X-factor, но Саймон Коуэлл посоветовал ему закончить школу, а потом прийти ещё раз.
— Найл Джеймс Хоран (Niall James Horan) родился 13 сентября 1993 года, в Маллингаре, Ирландия. Играет на гитаре.
— Луи Уильям Томлинсон (Louis William Tomlinson) родился 24 декабря 1991 года в Донкастере, Южный Йоркшир. Самый старший в группе, имеет четыре младших сестры: Шарлотта (больше известная как Лотти), Фелисите, близняшки Дейзи и Фиби.
— Гарри Эдвард Стайлс (Harry Edward Styles) родился 1 февраля 1994 года в городке Холмс-Чейпл, Чешир.

What Makes You Beautiful is a song by the English-Irish boy band One Direction from their debut studio album, Up All Night (2011). Written by Savan Kotecha and its producers, Rami Yacoub and Carl Falk, the song was released by Syco Records on 11 September 2011. After recording it at Cosmos Studios and Kinglet Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, the band felt relieved to have a song that they were happy to release as their first single. The track is an uptempo song which interpolates pop genres teen pop, power pop and pop rock. It features a prominent guitar-based chorus and riff, and the middle eight consists of a «na na na» hook. The song’s opening guitar riff is similar to that of the classic song «Summer Nights» from the musical Grease and its 1978 motion picture adaptation.

The song was generally complimented by contemporary music critics, who highlighted the appeal to the teenage audience and the pop sensibility. It debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart, after setting a Sony Music Entertainment pre-order record and selling 153,965 copies in its first week. The single also topped the Irish and Scottish Singles Charts, and reached the top ten on the Australian and New Zealand Singles Charts, Flemish Ultratop 50, Canadian Hot 100, Japan Hot 100 and the United States Billboard Hot 100. It peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over four million copies in the US by January 2013. With over 5 million copies sold worldwide, the track is the best-selling song by a boy band in digital history and among the best-selling singles of all time.

The accompanying music video was directed by John Urbano and depicts One Direction spending time on a Malibu, California, beach. The clip garnered the group three MTV Video Music Awards on 6 September 2012, including Best Pop Video. One Direction performed the song live on televised shows, at awards ceremonies, and on two of their major concert tours: Up All Night Tour (2011–12) and Take Me Home Tour (2013). Artists including Boyce Avenue, Parade, Rita Ora, the Piano Guys, and Josh Groban have covered «What Makes You Beautiful», and it was performed on an episode of Glee, «Prom-asaurus». «What Makes You Beautiful» won the BRIT Award for Best British Single at the 2012 ceremony. This song is the fourth track on Now 42.
